The Indian pharma juggernaut will have unstinted support from the movers and shakers of the pharma world ,who will be converging in Mumbai at CPhI & PMEC India , South Asia’s  largest pharma event , which will be commemorating its 10th successful year with India Pharma Week ,  a week-long celebration packed with avant-garde events prior to the expo , adding colour to the three -day extravaganza.

From a minnow three decades back , the Indian pharma has grown to a Godzilla straddling over the global pharma lanscape standing tall amongst the top market players in the world. Globally, the pharma sector in India ranks third in terms of volume and 14th in terms of value. It is primarily driven by exports in regulated and emerging markets.

The pharma industry in India is one of the fastest growing industries. Today the Indian pharmaceutical market is growing at CAGR of 15.92 per cent and is expected to be worth US$ 55 billion by 2020, projected to be among the top three global markets in terms of incremental growth .

India has maintained its lead over China in terms of pharma exports, according to a recent statement by the ministry of commerce and industry. While the country’s pharma exports rose 7.55 per cent, from $11.66 billion in 2014 to $12.54 billion in 2015, China’s pharma exports rose 5.3 per cent from $6.59 billion to $6.94 billion in the same period. While India is the largest provider of generic medicines globally, with a 20 per cent share in supplies by volume, China accounts for 1.5 per cent of the global drug market.

The country is a prime pharma hub due to its diversification of the pharma industry, from simple ingredients to complex generics, machinery and finished products. The Indian pharma industry continues to reinvent itself, adapting to the changing global economy, and moving up the value chain. In the next 10 years the world will see India as a global leading industry of biosimilars, innovative drugs , medical devices and generics, opine industry cognoscenti.
